Prior to the introduction of DriveWorks, products had to be customized by hand. Each assembly had to be manually opened and edited, the drawing derived and saved. A large, time-consuming effort with an incalculable potential for errors.
It was a challenge to focus on the development of individual sun protection systems and management of standard components, taking into account high-security standards.
markilux found it hard to find the ideal compromise between functionality and stability, without neglecting the design. Configurable products required CAD designers, and there were challenges with managing data in a version and audit-proof manner.

Rules-Based DriveWorks Software Offers Custom Solutions
Using DriveWorks software, designer Alexander Metten creates sets of rules that can define entire systems. These sets of rules are based on the native 3D data and are fully integrated into SOLIDWORKS and linked to selected parameters.
The individualisation of an awning can offer a multitude of choices and these variables have to be made configurable. The sets of rules are created in DriveWorks Administrator.

Saving Time & Reducing Errors
DriveWorks automatically generates the assemblies and drawings in SOLIDWORKS and saves the data in the PDM database. The designer can rely on the system and concentrate on other valuable tasks.
Automated Document Generation
A complete project can consist of hundreds of drawings and BOMs. The CAD data set and project-accompanying documents are managed in a version-proof, revision-proof and well-structured PDM system.
The Future of DriveWorks at markilux
markilux plans to expand its use of DriveWorks into sales. With DriveWorks, the sales configurator and partner portal can be used on other devices outside engineering. This means the markilux consultants will easily be able to start the order process by entering the individual measurements and details whilst on-site at the customer’s premises.
