The challenge
Rädlinger Maschinenbau, based in Germany, is a leading manufacturer of custom construction machinery equipment. Their product range includes excavator buckets, wheel loader shovels, quick-change systems, and rotary motors.
Rädlinger needed a solution to accelerate product development and reduce the workload of its design team.
The solution
Rädlinger Maschinenbau implemented a DriveWorks design automation solution to automate the variant configuration process for their Class 15 standard backhoe bucket.
The sales support team configures the bucket in a web interface configurator. Based on their inputs, DriveWorks automatically creates the 3D CAD models, drawings, and other documents. These files are automatically saved in SOLIDWORKS PDM.
The pilot project automated the configuration of Rädlinger’s backhoe bucket, and given the promising results, they plan to expand the design automation project to include more of their products.
Their long-term goal is to create all standard products via the configurator. By the end of 2026, half of their products will be available in the configurator.
The products we manufacture have a very high degree of variance. For a single bucket class, we have hundreds of possible configurations. We wanted to focus our day-to-day business more on new tasks. This led us to the idea of a product configurator.
