Last month, we shared the sad news about the loss of a dear colleague, friend, and pivotal member of the DriveWorks community, Paul Gimbel.
Paul had a lasting impact on the lives of everyone who knew him, diving deep into the challenges that engineers and engineering businesses face daily, and finding solutions by developing tools and techniques from the worlds of design, engineering, software development, and beyond. His decades-long career saw him gain unique insight and perspective on those challenges.
His legacy at DriveWorks dates back long into our history, and lives on in much of the work and many of the initiatives that will continue long into the future. We’re pleased to share some news about a new award, honoring Paul and his contribution to DriveWorks.
The Paul Gimbel Award for DriveWorks technical excellence and community spirit
The Paul Gimbel Award for DriveWorks technical excellence and community spirit will recognize outstanding contributions to the DriveWorks Community.
The award is for those who have consistently shared knowledge and provided selfless mentorship in and around DriveWorks-related topics and community values. It will be presented each year to a recipient selected by a panel. Award recipients will be invited to join the panel for subsequent awards.
Paul had a deeply artistic soul and an appreciation for turning preloved materials into works of sculpture, and we are very honoured and proud to have one of his pieces on display at our HQ in Warrington. The design of the new award will take inspiration from that piece.
We encourage everyone to start thinking about who they might like to nominate. Nominations will be made via the DriveWorks World 2026 event app, which opens on 30th March and closes on 15th May. The winner will be announced at the next DriveWorks Drivers meeting on 4th June.
