ROSE housing solutions can be found in mechanical and plant engineering, the automotive sector, traffic and automation technology, measurement and control technology as well as the food and beverage industry.

Keeping pace with high company growth
Founded in 1969, ROSE Systemtechnik GmbH has evolved and expanded, launching operations in Hungary and India and joining the global technology company Phoenix Mecano. To keep up with company growth whilst maintaining high standards and the shortest delivery times possible, ROSE Systemtechnik GmbH identified the need to optimize company processes.
Optimising engineering processes
Manually modelling each custom housing in SOLIDWORKS to create production drawings was time-consuming. To cope with the variety of variants quickly and above all correctly, an automation solution had to be found to support the designers in the creation of standardised manufacturing drawings.
The diverse possibilities, the simple administration of the rules and the worldwide support for our colleagues in India was ultimately the decisive argument for DriveWorks as a partner.

Solution
Guided product configuration
Using the intuitive DriveWorks form designer, the ROSE team built a custom User Interface (UI) to input product requirements. Rules set by the designers guide users through the product configuration, only displaying valid options. This ensures configured products can be manufactured, streamlining the order process and minimising errors.
SOLIDWORKS production drawings are automatically generated
The selected components and defined options are used to automatically generate the SOLIDWORKS 3D CAD models and drawings. This removes the risk of manual input errors as the order moves from sales through to manufacturing. Native integration with SOLIDWORKS PDM allows data generated by DriveWorks to be automatically checked in for smooth data management.
ROSE chose to utilise DriveWorks Autopilot to automatically generate the SOLIDWORKS 3D CAD models and drawings on a separate server. This has allowed designers to work on separate projects in parallel, boosting team productivity.
Results
Powerful SOLIDWORKS drawing automation
ROSE started looking for a solution that could be integrated into their existing SOLIDWORKS 3D CAD environment. After researching solutions and consultation with reseller Bechtle PLM, ROSE decided on SOLIDWORKS Gold Partner Product and automation tool DriveWorks.

Capturing SOLIDWORKS models and drawings is simple using the DriveWorks add-in and the intuitive DriveWorks rules builder makes defining product and engineering knowledge fast and simple. Extensive learning resources and a fully documented help file provide all the material required to implement DriveWorks independently.
After a two-day training session delivered by Bechtle PLM, the team at ROSE started implementing DriveWorks. Joscha Plass, designer at ROSE Systemtechnik GmbH, describes the support from Bechtle PLM as “direct and without interfaces” adding “we feel really well looked after”. He continues, “as a customer, you notice that the DriveWorks team is happy to support us and develop a solution together”.
Worldwide technical support
DriveWorks is sold and supported by certified resellers around the world, offering support on local time zones. For ROSE, the worldwide support for colleagues in India was a decisive argument for DriveWorks as a partner.
Future
Automating other configurable product lines
Driven by the success of their first project, the ROSE team has short-term plans for automating other configurable product lines. The modular nature of DriveWorks makes it easy to add new product lines whilst existing configurators continue to be used.
Online product configurator for customers
“In the future, we plan to use DriveWorks as a sales tool as well” explains Katharina Lange, Marketing Manager at ROSE Systemtechnik GmbH. “Our customers should have the opportunity to configure housings by themselves using a web application”.
DriveWorks Live takes your product configurator online, allowing products to be configured via a web browser on any device. The DriveWorks form designer gives full control over the configurator UI, enabling DriveWorks to integrate seamlessly into any existing website.
Joscha Plass gives further insight into future plans at ROSE adding “we want to offer customers a button to download a 3D model of their own configuration”.
