Omaha Nebraska SOLIDWORKS User Group

When?
Tuesday 4th September 2018

What’s on the Agenda?

6:00pm – 6:20pm: Welcome, time for announcements, networking and dinner (food provided).
6:20pm – 7:20pm: 3D Printing Presented by: Jeremy Owen, RP America. We will explore design tips for utilizing additive manufacturing, look at advances in material sciences, and learn about real life stories of how 3D printing has been used to do far more than just prototyping.
7:20pm – 7:50pm: SOLIDWORKS Community Presented by: Todd Blacksher, SwugOne. Todd is going to share with us from one of his presentations from SWW 2018 about the SOLIDWORKS forums. We will see what it’s all about and how we can take advantage of the many resources it has to offer.
7:50pm – 8:00pm: Giveaways and Closing.

6:20pm – 7:20pm: 3D Printing Presented by: Jeremy Owen, RP America Overview:
The presentation will cover a lot of ground. Starting with some tips for designing to take advantage of additive manufacturing, moving into the advances that have been made in material sciences, and finishing with some real-world stories about how some customers have expanded the applications far beyond the traditional prototyping.
7:20pm – 7:50pm: SOLIDWORKS Community: Membership Has Its Privileges Presented by: Todd Blacksher, SWUGONE Overview: Find out about how to get more involved in the SOLIDWORKS forums. There is a whole community out there that is wondering where you have been all this time. (This is one of the presentations that I gave at SOLIDWORKS World this year).

Featured Presenters

Matt Rohr – Matt is a Certified SOLIDWORKS Expert and the founder of the SOLIDWORKS User Group of New York City! He will be giving an interactive presentation to showcase some personal successes using a few favorite tools in SOLIDWORKS 2018.

Heather Hasz – Heather is the Brand and Community Ambassador for DriveWorks Ltd.  Heather will provide an overview of DriveWorksXpress, the free design automation tool that sits inside every seat of SOLIDWORKS. Heather will also be presenting on the DriveWorksXpress Training and Certification program.

Earl Hasz – This presentation is for the inner brewer in us all. We’ll have a look at home brewing and how I have taken a hobby and applied it to my day job at SOLIDWORKS. The topics we’ll cover are the steps in brewing beer; how I took a DIY kit and applied it to SOLIDWORKS Electrical; where can we go from there with these other SOLIDWORKS Electrical Engineering tools.

What’s on the Agenda?

“I have scheduled a new SOLIDWORKS User Group meeting for Tuesday, September 25, 2018 from 6pm to 8pm (please try to get there a few minutes early so you can fix a plate of food).

It will be held in the SiMT building room 261 (see below for address). I have asked Laura Weismantel from TriMech to head up the meeting. She will demo DriveWorksXpress, which is included in every seat of SOLIDWORKS.  In addition she will show some uses and examples of recorded macros and api programs for SOLIDWORKS.

There will be food and drinks…Please feel free to make food suggestions when you RSVP to kingdesign@sc.rr.com.

What’s on the Agenda?

“We have our next meeting scheduled for 9/26/18 at 6pm here at PL Custom. Andres Lesmes from Design Point will be doing a presentation on 3D scanning. He is scanning the an engine cover and wing from a plastic model airplane. I hope to take this scan, make some modifications in SOLIDWORKS and then get 3D printed! (future meetings!)

Next up, Cameron Smith who is the usergroup leader at Aberdeen Proving Grounds will be giving his presentation on “How to win model mania”. Which is described as a “tips and tricks session, but in the context of improving your workflow”. If you are not aware, model mania is a contest held at SOLIDWORKS  World every year that anyone can enter.” – Shawn Casebolt, Group Leader.
